Cover art requirements

The exact specs Apple and Spotify enforce, plus what actually reads well at thumbnail size.

Last updated

Cover art is the single most-seen asset your show has, and it is almost always seen small.

Hard requirements

RequirementValue
FormatJPG or PNG
Minimum size1400 × 1400 px
Recommended size3000 × 3000 px
Aspect ratioSquare (1:1)
Maximum file size10 MB
Color spaceRGB

Artwork outside these bounds is rejected at upload, because directories reject it too.

Animated GIFs, transparent PNGs, and non-square images are not accepted. Directories will reject the feed outright.

Design rules that survive the thumbnail

Your art is typically rendered at roughly 60 × 60 px in a listener’s app.

  • Three or four words maximum. The show title, and nothing else.
  • Heavy type. Thin weights disappear when scaled down.
  • High contrast. Test it against both light and dark app backgrounds.
  • No fine detail. Photographs with busy backgrounds turn to mud.

Quick test: export your art, shrink it to 60 × 60 px, and look at it from across the room. If you cannot read the title, neither can anyone browsing a directory.

Episode artwork

Individual episodes inherit the show’s cover art. Per-episode artwork is optional and mostly unnecessary — most apps display the show art anyway.
